There are people we photograph because we are inspired by what we see. And then there are people we photograph because we are inspired by who they have become.

Madeeyah is both. She is my daughter, but through the years, she has also become one of the reasons I picked up a camera in the first place. Having photographed her through every season of her life, I have a front-row seat to her transformation watching her grow stronger, more intentional, and deeply grounded in who she is.

Today, Madeeyah wears many titles: veteran, model, actress, and case management assistant. Her creative path has taken her through films, commercials, and music videos, including an appearance in Amerie’s Too Rare. But titles only tell you what someone has accomplished. They don't tell you what it took to get there.

In Her Own Words

"My journey is one of resilience, faith, and continuing to push forward even when life gets difficult. As a veteran, I learned the importance of strength, discipline, and perseverance. After serving my country, I continued that commitment to service working for the Department of Social Services to support families in my community.

In March of 2024, I was diagnosed with lupus a life-changing reality that brought challenges and anxiety I never expected. There are days when I feel overwhelmed or afraid, but I refuse to let those moments define me. Strength does not mean never struggling; it means continuing to show up even when you are.

What I See Through My Lens

Motherhood teaches you that eventually your children must walk roads you cannot walk for them. You can love them, pray for them, and offer a safe place to land but their journey ultimately belongs to them. That is why these photographs mean so much to me. There is no armor here because there doesn’t need to be. In the water, the movement, and the stillness, you see softness and strength existing in the exact same woman.

Warriors don’t always look like they are fighting. Sometimes strength is simply getting out of bed, walking into an audition, learning your body again after a diagnosis, or helping others while carrying your own heavy burden. Sometimes strength is just whispering: I am still here.

Documenting Her Becoming

When I raise my camera to photograph Madeeyah now, I see every version of her at once: the daughter, the veteran, the professional, the artist, and the warrior. I’m not just taking a portrait; I am documenting her becoming.

That is the true purpose of The Inspired Who Inspire series. It isn't about perfection or untouched lives. It is about telling the stories of people who have actually lived those who have faced fear, illness, and change, yet still choose to show up and move forward.Madeeyah’s story is her own. I simply have the honor of witnessing it, photographing it, and watching it unfold. The inspired eventually become the ones who inspire and everything we are celebrating in this moment is still only the beginning.
