The Storyteller Behind the Camera
For years, I have told stories through my lens, capturing love, resilience, identity, and the beautiful complexity of being human. Photography has always been a way of preserving moments that time would otherwise take from us. But whether holding a camera or a pen, my purpose remains unchanged: to preserve something meaningful for the generations that follow.
When the Stories Become Your Own
Over the years, I’ve experienced different chapters of life. Some beautiful. Some difficult. Some that required me to become a version of myself I hadn’t yet met. I’ve lived in different places, encountered extraordinary people, raised children, built a creative career, and learned that sometimes the greatest stories are the ones we never imagined we’d have the courage to tell. Writing has given me another way to reflect on those experiences. Not every story is easy to revisit. Not every memory comes with a photograph. And not every lesson reveals its meaning when we’re living through it. Sometimes understanding comes years later. Sometimes it comes through writing.
The Stories Behind the Scarves
Of all the tangible things that carry our memories, scarves have become deeply personal to me. In one of my upcoming literary projects, these colorful pieces of fabric represent something much greater than fashion. They symbolize the chapters of my life, the places I’ve been, the experiences I’ve carried, and the woman I’ve become.
Each color tells a different story. Some are filled with beauty and discovery. Others reflect seasons of uncertainty, growth, and transformation. Together, they represent a life that cannot be defined by a single moment.
As I began putting my experiences into words, I realized that I didn’t want the visual representation of my journey to focus only on sadness or tears. I wanted color. I wanted something that reflected the beauty, complexity, strength, and transformation that can exist within one person’s life. Because our stories are never defined by just one moment. And sometimes, the most meaningful thing we can do is look back at everything we’ve experienced and recognize how far we’ve come.
New Chapter: Becoming an Author
Behind the scenes, I’ve been working on something deeply personal.
Not just one, but several creative projects that reflect different parts of who I am, what I’ve experienced, and what I hope to leave behind.
One project explores chapters of my own life, while another is a children’s book series I’ve envisioned for a very long time. The children’s series is especially meaningful because it brings together my love of photography, creativity, education, and inspiring young minds to discover the world around them. It’s something I’ve been planning for years, and the thought of finally bringing it to life is both exciting and a little nerve-racking.
And if I’m being transparent, the process has been exhausting. Writing the stories is one thing. Preparing to publish them is an entirely different journey.
The Journey to Publication
I’ve reached out to publishers while also considering the possibility of self publishing. There are so many decisions to make, from editing and design to production and distribution.
Some days, the process feels overwhelming. Other days, I remind myself that bringing these stories into the world is something I’ve wanted to do for years.
I’m learning that becoming an author isn’t simply about writing a book. It’s about having the courage to share what you’ve created with the world.
Beyond the Lens
For years, I’ve told stories through photographs. Now, I’m preparing to tell them through the pages of books.
This next chapter is both exciting and unfamiliar, but I believe that some stories are meant to live beyond the lens.
Whether through photography or writing, my purpose remains the same: to create something meaningful, preserve stories, and leave something behind for generations to come. And perhaps this is what becoming an author truly means to me.
Not leaving photography behind, but allowing my storytelling to grow.
With love,
April Amelia
