When you’re choosing a photographer, you’re choosing more than someone who knows how to operate a camera. You’re trusting someone with a moment in your life that may never happen exactly this way again.
Before you book with me, I want you to know who I am, what I value, what it feels like to work with me, why my work is priced the way it is, and why I believe photographs can become more valuable as the years pass.
Because for me, this has never been about simply taking pictures.
It’s about creating something worth keeping.
Who Is April?
I’m April Amelia, a photographer, creative director, storyteller, and artist.
Photography has taken me around the world and introduced me to people from different places, cultures, and walks of life. I’ve photographed motherhood, families, celebrations, fashion, portraits, milestones, and quiet moments that became more meaningful simply because time passed.
Through all of those experiences, I discovered something about myself as an artist.
I’m always thinking about the future.
When I photograph you, I’m not only thinking about the image you may post when your gallery arrives.
I’m thinking about the photograph your child may find twenty years from now.
The portrait that may hang in your home.
The photograph someone may pull from an album years from now and ask you to tell them the story behind it.
That changes the way I photograph.
I don’t capture for now. I capture for the future.
What Does It Feel Like to Work With Me?
One of the most common things people tell me before a session is:
“I don’t know how to pose.”
You don’t have to.
That’s my job.
I pay attention to your hands, posture, expression, wardrobe, lighting, environment, and the small details that can completely change a photograph.
I’ll guide you, but I don’t want you to feel like a mannequin being moved from pose to pose.
I want you to breathe.
Laugh.
Move.
Interact.
Be yourself.
Some sessions are quiet and emotional. Others are filled with laughter. Some clients arrive completely comfortable in front of the camera, while others need a little more guidance before they begin to relax.
I meet you where you are.
There isn’t one formula because there isn’t another you.
Why Does My Photography Cost What It Costs?
When you invest in a session with me, you aren’t simply paying for the hour or two that I’m holding my camera.
You’re investing in everything that came before that moment.
Years of learning light. Learning people. Learning posing. Understanding when to direct and when to allow a moment to happen naturally. Developing my eye. Refining my editing. Creating in different environments. Making mistakes, learning from them, and continuing to grow as an artist.
Then there is everything that happens specifically for your experience.
The communication.
The planning.
The creative direction.
The preparation.
The photography.
The careful selection of your images.
The editing.
And the final presentation.
I’m not a shoot-and-burn photographer. My goal isn’t to photograph as quickly as possible, hand over hundreds of files, and move on to the next person.
I want the finished work to feel intentional.
And for clients who want their photographs to exist beyond a digital gallery, I also offer art books separately from my session collections.
There is something completely different about holding your photographs in your hands. Turning the pages. Displaying them in your home. Watching your children look through them.
Digital photographs are wonderful.
But I also want you to have the opportunity to create something you can physically hold onto.
I have learned not to rush work that is meant to last.
Why Legacy, Heritage, and Heirloom?
When it came time to name my collections, I knew I didn’t want Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
I didn’t want Package One, Package Two, and Package Three either.
Those names could tell you where something fell on a pricing list.
They couldn’t tell you why it mattered.
So I started thinking about what happens to a photograph after I deliver it.
Legacy
A photograph begins as part of your Legacy.
It says:
I was here.
I lived.
I loved.
This chapter happened.
It preserves something about you that memory alone cannot always hold onto.
Heritage
As time passes, those photographs become part of your Heritage.
They become the pictures your children grow up seeing.
The photograph on the wall that has always been there.
The portrait that helps someone understand where they came from.
The images connected to stories your family tells again and again.
Heirloom
And eventually, some photographs become Heirlooms.
These are the photographs that survive us.
The album passed from one generation to another.
The portrait someone carefully removes from a frame decades later.
The photograph your grandchild may someday hold and say:
“That’s my grandmother.”
“That’s my family.”
“That’s where I come from.”
That’s when the names became clear to me.
Legacy. Heritage. Heirloom.
They aren’t different levels of how important your story is.
Every story matters.
They represent what I believe photographs can become.
The Collections
I created three portrait collections so you can choose the amount of time and depth that best fits the story you want to create.
Legacy Collection | $649
1 hour | 30 final images
Legacy is for the moments you know deserve to be remembered.
It gives us time to create intentionally while preserving a meaningful collection of photographs from this chapter of your life.
Whether we’re documenting you, motherhood, your family, a milestone, or simply who you are right now, the purpose remains the same: creating photographs worth returning to.
Heritage Collection | $1,249
1.5 hours | 35 final images
Heritage gives us more room to tell the story.
With additional time, we can explore more variety, expressions, details, and creative direction while creating a fuller visual record of your experience.
This collection gives us more space to slow down and create rather than simply move from one photograph to another.
Heirloom Collection | $1,849
2 hours | 40 final images
Heirloom is my most expansive portrait experience.
The additional time gives us the freedom to explore the vision more deeply and create a larger body of work designed to be treasured beyond this particular season of your life.
Because an heirloom isn’t valuable simply because of what it costs.
It becomes valuable because of what it means.
What Will You Walk Away With?
Yes, you’ll receive beautiful photographs.
But I hope you walk away with something more.
I want you to see yourself differently.
I want your children to someday discover photographs of you and understand who you were.
I want a mother to look at her maternity photographs years later and remember how deeply her child was loved before she ever got to hold her.
I want someone to look at a portrait and remember the person they were becoming.
I want a family photograph to become more valuable as the people in it grow and life changes.
And I want something hanging in your home today to mean something entirely different twenty years from now.
That’s one of the things I love most about photography.
Its emotional value can grow with time.
Can You Trust Me With an Important Moment?
I could simply tell you to trust me.
But I think there’s a better way.
Listen to the people who have already stood in front of my camera.
Read their stories.
Look at their photographs.
See what they say about being directed, feeling comfortable, trusting me with their vision, and seeing their finished photographs.
Some of the people I’ve photographed have returned to me for completely different chapters of their lives.
That means something to me.
Because when someone allows me to document a pregnancy, a child, a family, a milestone, or simply who they are at this particular moment, I understand the responsibility that comes with it.
I may be holding a moment that becomes priceless later.
I don’t take that lightly.
How Do I Book?
I’ve intentionally made this part simple.
Explore my portfolio.
Read through the collections.
Spend some time reading what my clients have shared about their experiences.
Then, when you’re ready, visit my booking page and choose the experience that feels right for you.
And please don’t think you need to have everything figured out before you contact me.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t need to arrive with an entire creative concept.
You don’t have to know exactly what the finished photographs should look like.
That’s part of what I’m here for.
We create it together.
Because at April Amelia Photography, the goal isn’t simply to schedule a photoshoot.
It’s to preserve something.
Something you can see.
Something you can hold.
Something your family can find again.
Something that may become more important with every year that passes.
Legacy. Heritage. Heirloom.
They’re more than the names of my collections.
They represent why I photograph the way I do.
I don’t capture for now. I capture for the future.
